Will under active thyroid treatment help all symptoms?
I've been experiencing some illness lately including pale skin, sensitivity to the cold, tiredness and several others so I went to the doctor and I am having blood tests for anemia and under active thyroid next week but he said I mostly likely have an underactive thyroid. If I do have an under active thyroid and take the tablets, should all the symptoms go away? I noticed that on the NHS website that it can cause restricted growth and I am quite short so I have been wondering if it would help me grow again. I am 15 years old if that help. Thank you.
How long can you go without thyroid treatment?
My friend has been diagnosed with hypothyroid and claims she will go about fixing it naturally but here is the problem. She has had this for 4 years and has experienced all of the symptoms, weight gain, feeling tired, intolerance to cold, and the list goes on and on. I am afraid she wills slip into a coma and die from her not taking any action. She is now experience numbing in her toes and her memory is now being effected. So my question is, how long do you think she has before things start getting serious? Anyone with experience on this subject, your comments will be much appreciated.
What can I expect when coming off anti-thyroid treatment combined with hormone replacement.?
I have been on the treatment for anti immune hyperthyroid for 16 months. The doctor has told me I can stop medication immediately as blood levels are back to normal. Does the thyroid kick back into action immediately? Or should I expect to go through a period of slugglishness beforehand while the thyroid wakes up again?

Which should I choose for thyroid treatment?
Okay , I'm a 15 year old girl and about a year ago I began feeling very tired and just in a bad mood. I didn't really think too much about it but then I began to have VERY intense stomach aches and if I ate anything 10 minutes after eating I would have to go to the bathroom, sometimes I would just be in agony from the pain in my stomach. I got a appointment with my regular doctor and he diagnosed me with IBS Irritable bowl Syndrome . He gave me medicine but it didn't help I tried dealing with it I missed a lot of school because of it and I began losing weight I went to the ER and had test done and they didn't ever tell me what was wrong they didn't know while I was in the ER they noticed my heart rate was very very high and almost admitted me but I just stayed in the ER over night and when they got my rate to go 120 they sent me home. My stomach pains randomly started to disappear but then I was having throat pain so I went to the doctors to get checked out when the doctor was feeling my neck she noticed that where my thyroid gland was it was very enlarged, she sent me over to the head and neck doctor and he took a look and recommend me to a endocrinologist. So me and my parents drove to the closet children endocrinologist to me which is about an hour away. I had blood tests done and she found out I had hyperthyroidism in January of this year 2011. She told me she thought it was caused by Graves' disease so I was put on medication trying to normalize my thyroid levels. The enlargement the first doctor felt was thought to be a goiter. I was taking my medication and my thyroid levels improved a little but not normalized during my summer vacation my neck began to hurt and I went to the ER the endocrinologist that was on call came in to check me out and he told me he thought I had hashimoto thyroiditis. They just sent me home and said nothing more about that. My endocrinologist just last week put in a order for me to get a thyroid scan to see what was causing my hyperthyroidism. I got the scan done and what is causing it is a nodule that is on my thyroid gland and it's making it produce to much of the hormones. I was concerned that it could be cancerous because cancer runs in my family my mother and grandmothers and there mothers all have had cancer but the endocrinologist said in most causes the nodules are not cancerous. They gave me two options to get ride of it radioactive iodine therapy or surgery. My uncle got his thyroid gland out as a kid. I have no idea what one I should get, i'm really hesitant to get the radioactive treatment because I don't want that messing up my body or having any future problems. The surgery option also just scares me because it is surgery. I'm only 15 and I don't know what the best option would be for me.

Reversing thyroid treatment?
I never had a problem with my weight until I had treatment for an over active thyroid gland. I had radioactive iodine which killed it dead. At the time they went through the side effects but never mentioned that I'd put on nearly 2 stone in a month but that's what happened. Yes I know the best way to lose weight is exercise and healthy eating and that's what I do but I can't get it shifted. Does anyone know if it is possible to kick start your thyroid working again??

Question about thyroid treatments?
Ok now I wanted to read up on this before my next doctors appointment and I figured I could get a push in the right direction here. We had some bloodwork done for an issue I've been having and it was found that my thyroid is producing far less than what it should be. I believe its called hypothyroidism not sure, but I'm positive they said its not producing enough or something like that. Anyways, now my friend says its a life long medication condition, and thats something I'd rather not have to deal with. So my question is what about treating this condition is known and is their a permanent cure outside of medication? Also what can this condition cause, because right now they believe it could be the cause of a long term back issue I've had. Basically multiple areas in my back have aches, some more intense than others. The two worst ones are below my shoulders in the general area of the rhomboid muscles sort of on your rib cage in your back but close to the armpit . So is it a possible that a long term thyroid issue could be the cause of these intense aches that make my back crack allot?
