Why don't Doctors believe thyroid disorders causes mental issues?
Listening to my doctor telling me, i need psych meds every time i visit is starting to make me feel crazy. Every since last year my life have been hell. I feel so out of place and out of touch with the world. All of the symptoms were so sudden and i went to the ER and got diagnosed. I'm only 20 and though I went to a therapist for depression when i was 15 16 I believe it was my thyroid then because none of the meds worked and made me feel worse. And i had other symptoms, like feeling cold, Ibs, weight gain, mood swings and etc. Now i'm dealing with so much, i truly feel crazy. I don't know who i am and that makes me cry, my mind is so out of place, i use to be smart and in college and now i've stopped because its that i feel dumb now, i can't remember, i have terrible anxiety, depression, mood swings like rage, irritability, bad thinking, weight gain, ear issues, blurry vision, dry flaky skin, and i can go on and on, I feel so old and i'm only 20. This is taking a toll on my life and i can't live this way forever. Is there anyone else that went through this? and did you get your life back after right treatment? or do you think its two separate issues going on here? any help or advice will be appreciated thx

I know thyroid disorders can cause depression, but can untreated depression cause thyroid disorders?
Since I've heard untreated depression can cause chronic diseases.Don't just say " yes" or " no" please, I would like more information.I suffered from untreated depression ever since I'm about 11, I'm 20 now.I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism a year ago, no one else in my family has thyroid disorders.Even with the correct dosage, I'm still depressed.

I have a question about thyroid disorders?
ok so my grandmother has an under active thyroid and shes taken medicine for 8 or 10 years, shes 76, until just recently the towns doctor told her that she didn't need to take her medicine anymore that she didn't have a thyroid problem anymore. Can this happen? Can you go for 8 or 10 years taking medicine for a thyroid problem and then one day you just don't have to anymore? Just a concerned Granddaughter so thank you to any and all answers. No she was not taking Thyroxine she was taking Synthroid, and it's not the medication i'm worrying about its the long terms effects that i'm worrying over because, now I don't know that's why I've asked this question, It just seems weird that she wouldn't have a thyroid problem after all these years of having one.

Can thyroid disorders cause joint degeneration or just pain?
Around the same time my doctor had me on a very high dose of Methimazole for graves disease my hair starting coming out in clumps, I gained 20 lbs in 2 months and tore the meniscus in BOTH of my knees at different times . Can my thyroid issues or over medication be the cause of my knees degenerating to the point of the meniscus tearing? I've read that thyroid problems can cause joint pain, but not injury.Actually, I am not overweight. I'm still within my optimal range for my height even after gaining 20 lbs.

Can a primary care physician help with thyroid disorders?
I'm going to get checked out for a thyroid disorder. Can my primary physician help me as far as testing and prescribing meds or am I better off seeing an endocrinologist?

Are all doctors the same ? I have a Thyroid Disorder for which I take 250mg of thyroxine which due to my weigh?
hard of hearing, legs and feet swelling all the time, and many more problems, I have seen all 5 doctors at my surgery and all 5 are rubbish, I brought a book about thyroid disorders and everything I have told these so called doctors is in this book, my health is getting worse and feel like I am fighting a losing battle, in my time I must have met 20 or more doctors, none of which I can honestly say were any good. No this is not those silly people on TV that always know what a persons problem is and cure it by the end of the show, these are people that go to Uni and spend years to become a doctor. But are there any good one out there, I have never met one yet.

Does a thyroid disorder cause hair loss?
Thyroid problems run in my family. I'm a 25 year old male. What kind of hair loss is associated with thyroid disorders.

Is it hard to get rid of a thyroid disorder?
When I mean by disorder I mean like having hypothyroid or hyperthyroid. Growing up around 7 years old I started with hyperthyroid but then it turned to hypothyroid around the time I was 10 I believe. From then on till I was 18 I been talking medication for hypothyroid. But now recently my doctor told me not take any medication for about 2 months and take a blood test to see how my levels were. And what do ya know, the results came out to be normal Meaning I didn't have the condition any more and don't need to take medication for it which I have to say is awesome, I feel less depress, lazy, and more happy .Anyhow, now from this, I was wondering is it hard to get rid of thyroid problems. Does this factor depends on the individual? Because before I was always looking at articles and comments on this subject and most of them were patients with thyroid disorders who are struggling for years and it just got me thinking like how come I got cured or is it suddenly going to come back? Is it?
