Question about thyroid function / testing?
I'm about 29 weeks pregnant and had been feeling very fatigued. The doctor ordered a thyroid test looking at TSH I don't know if they also looked at T3 or T4 . They called me and said my levels were slightly low I said you mean I'm not producing enough hormone and they said yes. They prescribed levothyroxine 25 mcg day. I called back to ask for more information and was told the normal range was .58 to 1.something and my level was .54.After doing some research though, I'm confused because it sounds like high TSH levels indicate hypothyroidism and lower levels indicate hyperthyroidism? Something about if the thyroid isn't producing enough, excess TSH is produced to stimulate production of T3 T4. So why would a low TSH level prompt them to have me take more hormone? Can someone explain this to me?Thanks for any help.

I have a lot of symptoms of thyroid disease cold, hair loss, dry skin, brittle nails, can't loose weight, fatigue. As there is a family history of Hashimoto's, including my daughter, I asked my doctor to check my thyroid, which he reluctantly did. His advice was take a good multivitamin and use Rogain for my thinning hair.I wasn't tested for T3 or T4, even though I requested it.

I am going in for a thyroid function test and am an occasional frequent smoker. Do thyroid function tests detect marijuana? It'll be about 3.5 4 weeks since i stopped smoking. Would the function test detect THC levels?
