What dangers am I facing since I have not taken my thyroid medication for 10 years?
I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and Graves Disease, per my mother when I was 13. I am now 28 and have let my condition go untreated for the last 10 years. I am seeing some major symptoms now and have begun the process of getting an updated diagnosis and treatment plan 2 weeks from now . I would like to know what to expect have I done serious damage to myself? I wish I had been more diligent on my own, but you don't think of these things when you are younger.

What happens if you take thyroid medication not perscribed to you? Does it speed up your metabolism anyway?
Just wondering if this is really potentially harmful? I don't know if I have thyroid problems, I never go to the doctor but have aquired a buttload of thyroid medication and am curious to see what happens if I take it? I have been vegetarian and pretty fit and healthy for 16 or so years, but think I have a pretty slow metabolism so can't eat any junky foods or carbohydrates at all can't Don't Won't by body just doesn't process carbs like pasta and bread and stuff very well at all and I feel terrible when I eat it.Does anyone have any insight in to this? What is the worst case scenario if I do this?
I feel my thyroid medication makes me unable to concentrate and sit still, what's with that?
I have tried to tell it to my doctor, but he just laughs when I say it to him and say it's the opposite that the medication makes me able to concentrate.But funny thing is that I can concentrate fine if without the medication for a while everything from days to weeks and then when I start the medication again I get slowly back to being able to concentrate, and bad memory memorizing things. This is annoying me. I am at a point where considering stopping taking my medication, I cant have a life as a vegetable because I need to take thyroid medication levaxine and liothyronine .Funny enough my levels are low and need more dose, but I wont take it, no matter what the prize of my health will be when it EJIDHFNDOIE " ED pisses me off that I cant concentrate Or remember things. Now taken it two days in a row again and already i cant read anything for more than 1 minute and no self discipline, nothing is like it should when i take the medication, its pisses me right off I still have not read one A4 page and I started reading it 40 minutes ago Just 3 days ago I was reading for non stop for hours I read you can die if you dont take your medication eventually but to be alive and not being able to read??? Without it taking a whole day to read 5 pages is no life unfortunately he already is a specialist in thyroid i dont know what to do. i also met one of the most famous thryoid doctors here that also did not listen to me regarding this matter. it seems to them so different and new that they rather not listen to me
Was taking thyroid medication for a year and found out there has not been any abnormal test that I needed it?
I just stopped taking the medicine because Ive had terrible stomach pain gained fifteen pounds in 1 year. went to a new doctor he pulled my blood work for the last 4 years no abnormal thyroid test. Doesnt know why they had me on it. Had upper Gi done still waiting for results. Dont know if that medicine I was on is causing all these problems it was Levythroxine
Is getting a perm when ur taking thyroid medications?
do you get brittle hair,or do you lose more hair with a perm,than on your thyroid medication.I now have long hair and would like a perm in it instead of just strait hair.

Theres been no improvment even though my levels show up fine in my blood tests. The doctors think I'm wack. I started the medication 6 months ago, they even increased my levels. I'm on synthroid 0.125mg. for underactive thyroid. Whats the deal?They checked into everything else too...my t3, t4, tsh..everything fine.

I had some tests done a few months back, and discovered an underactive thyroid. The problem is that I am a little short on cash at the moment, and was wondering how much thyroid replacement generally costs. I understand that it is very important for me to take replacement, so I want to try to budget and save ahead of time. Thanks
Is there risk to taking thyroid medication if you don't really need it?
I am convinced that I have hypothyroidism. I have blood tests that show that I am moderately abnormal t3 and t4, and my THS is at the very high end of the spectrum, within 2 points of the top number. My doctor told me not to worry about it, but I have lots of family members with hypothyroidism and I know that something is not right with my body. I want my doctor to perscribe me thyroid medication to see if it fixes my symptoms. If it turns out that my thyroid is not the problem, are there serious negative side effects to taking it?
My doctor recommended that I skip a day of my thyroid medication each week what will this do?
I have hypothyroidism and I'm taking levothyroxin for it. My thyroid can back too low and she recommended that I skip Sundays and get retested in 6 weeks. How will skipping a day help figuring anything out?

I had my first visit with an endocrinologist yesterday. She says I have an underactive thyroid. For some reason I have to wait another 4 months to get any medication. I think she mentioned that the medication is just a hormone.What will it do? Will I lose weight or gain energy or anything? And will things like dry thinning hair and pale drawn skin improve?Thanks putting this q in diabetes as I also have pcos and apparently hypothyroidism is common in people with an insulin resistance I think it s because I ve gone public. It took me 6 months just to get the appointment...she didn t give me anything and my next one is in four months...in the meantime I just have to eat healthily and exercise. Very frustrating knowing I have to wait another 4 months....this will add up to being nearly a year just to get some help.
Will I lose weight if I'm off my thyroid medication?
Hey, I was taking medication for my hypothyroid but recently my doctor told me to take a blood test to see how my thyroid is functioning. Anyhow, later on my doctor told me that I don't need to take any medication anymore and that everything is normal. So now I am wondering about my weight because when I was on my medication I was, depress, lazy, and it was hard for me to lose weight and I don't eat that much just like any thyroid person goes through. So now that I am off it, will I be able to lose weight. Like I said I don't eat that much but I think my thyroid medication was making it hard to lose and sort of making me gain a bit. Also I feel so much better that I'm off the medications, like my mind feels so clear and happy compared to being depress and gloomy. Anyhow if anyone knows the answer to this or have experience with thyroid medication please feel free to answer.
